Artist Statement

My inspiration comes from spending time in nature and observing the forms, structures and themes such as skeletal twigs on the walkway to my studio, red leaves on the burning bush, and birds flying together in unison. The materials themselves also influence my work.  I love the feel fabrics, the sensuous colors of chiffon and tulle, the rhythm of sewing and knitting.  I translate these observations and inspirations into my work, exploring how they interconnect.

I create large scale installations and sculpture out of lightweight materials such as flexible screen, translucent vellum and sheer fabric.  These delicate materials are used to define shape, space and volume. Gravity and invisible air play as large a role in the work as the physical media.  There is a play between the work’s fragility, strength of presence and size. I create an environment that has an atmospheric, ethereal, playful quality.
